The Celtic Explorer is very modern
research vessel (RV). She is owned by
the Marine Institute and has a crew of
14 and can also carry up to 19 scientists.
Celtic Explorer is based in Galway, which is ideally located
as the gateway to the Atlantic where important
scientific work is carried out.
Celtic Explorer is 65.5 m long and 15 m wide. Overall, she is six times larger than
her sister ship the Celtic Voyager.
Celtic Explorer is powered by two 1600 kW diesel engines. She can travel at about 14
knots.
